Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, a colorless, sweet-smelling gas, has been helping patients feel calm during dental visits for decades. At Zelda Court Dental Care, this fast-acting sedation allows you to relax almost immediately, making even longer procedures feel easier and more comfortable.

What is Nitrous Oxide Sedation?

Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask placed over the nose and is combined with oxygen, typically 50-70% oxygen alongside at least 30% nitrous oxide. The combination lets you remain conscious, breathe on your own, and maintain control of all bodily functions.
Within minutes, you may feel relaxed, calm, and slightly detached from discomfort. Some patients also experience mild amnesia or a light sleep.
Is Nitrous Oxide Safe?
Nitrous oxide has been safely used in dentistry for many years. It has no lasting effects on the heart or lungs, wears off quickly after your appointment, and leaves no lingering drowsiness.
The level of sedation can be adjusted at any time, giving your dentist full control to keep you comfortable while ensuring your safety.

- Rapid relaxation: Takes effect within minutes to calm nerves and ease discomfort.
- Adjustable sedation: Your dentist can increase or decrease the sedation level as needed.
- Minimal aftereffects: Leaves no “hangover” after your appointment.
- Reduces gag reflex: Helps make treatment easier for patients prone to gagging.
Who Can Use Nitrous Oxide?
Most healthy children and adults can safely use nitrous oxide. However, it's not recommended for patients with chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD, emphysema, or other breathing difficulties. Our team will help determine if it’s right for you.
